Camino Portuguese

It’s been a minute since our last epic bike ride in 2015, but we pulled another one off. After spending a day and a half in Porto, we biked over 8 days up the Atlantic coast, into Spain, and then into the hills to Santiago de Campostela.

This is the well known Camino Portuguese pilgrimage route, and we saw many walkers along our way, but very few bikers. Nonetheless, we were greeted with “Bom Caminha” very often, and we responded in kind.

There were a lot of beautiful views and great memories to go with the two flat tires that needed patching. Maybe the best was crossing into Spain- the ferry we planned to take was out, and instead we hired a small fishing boat to take us across the Minho river. We landed on a beach on a beautiful morning and dragged our bikes and gear up through the sand to the bike trail. Frankie of course took a swim. What a great way to cross the border!
