We passed through Salt Lake City today, and stayed with a friend. Before we got there, we passed through the Bonneville Salt Flats, had lunch at the Salt Flats Cafe. Yum! We checked out the speedway, and thought the salt was a little muddy, I think Chocho set a land speed record for dogs.
We learned that the salt flats were formed from a giant lake that drained about 30,000 years ago when a natural dam broke. The Great Salt Lake is just a remnant. My friend Shelley showed us that you can see the shoreline of the original lake in the hills around Salt Lake City.
More photos here. Back in Colorado tomorrow, in Glenwood Springs.
