Venice finale

In contrast to the previous 11 days, we spent Saturday among crowds of tourists in Venice on Saturday. Venice was certainly beautiful, and the high point of our day was visiting the Basilica de San Marco, which has a museum where most churches have choir lofts, and that museum provided rooftop access for a unique view of the piazza. I would visit more churches if the let you walk out on the roof.

We wandered the calles all day to avoid the tourists, stopping for a spicy pasta lunch with some pastries for dessert. We visited the original ghetto (ghetto is actually Italian for “foundry” but has taken on new meaning) which was cleared out during WWII.

We bought our tickets for the ride to Milan, and then wondered how we would get our bikes (two tandems!) to the station. On our way home, we counted 21 bridges with stairs that we would have to cross. Stay tuned to hear how that worked out…
